Rafael Nadal actually uses Babolat Aeropro Drive but now it is “called” the Babolat Pure Aero.
The Babolat Pure Aero 2019 Tennis Racquet is a lot like its user and endorser Rafael Nadal – it’s fast & explosive and allows you to maintain a high-paced game to keep your opponents on their toes. At the same time, the Pure Aero boasts a good heft and a decent amount of power.
All this may sound great, but does it mean that the Pure Aero 2019 tennis racket is a good choice for you?

Who Should Buy Babolat Pure Aero 2019 Racket?
The Babolat Pure Aero 2019 tennis racket will likely be a good choice for those tennis players who want to play a faster-paced game and be more maneuverable on the court. This is due to the fairly fast swing weight and the head-light weight balance. I highly recommend this racquet for:
- Strong beginners
- Advanced players
- Aggressive baseliners
- The junior version for serious junior tennis players
Babolat Pure Aero 2019 also delivers a good amount of power thanks to its stiffer frame, large head, and the fairly open string pattern. The latter also increases the spin potential of the racket, which should make your shots less predictable for your opponents. It is also a great choice for junior players and in fact, it is one of the top choices in our top tennis racquets for juniors list.
If you pick the right strings, you could significantly increase the spin potential of the Pure Aero 2019, a lot like Rafael Nadal has done. However, if you would like to have a more stable and controllable feel, then you should choose strings accordingly.
Speaking of strings, keep in mind that some sellers may ship the Pure Aero 2019 racket unstrung. So be sure to do some extra research to find out which strings would suit your playstyle.
Strings Used By Rafael Nadal
Rafa has long used 15-gauge Babolat RPM Blast strings. These strings are the thickest version of RPM Blast and offer excellent spin. Apart from that, RPM Blast strings are fairly stiff and deliver a more firm and controlled ball response. The power of these strings isn’t too high, but it seems to work great with Pure Aero 2019.
When combined with the aggression of the Pure Aero racket, these strings allow for the fast pacing that Rafael Nadal is widely known for.

Fast swing and great maneuverability
The Babolat Pure Aero tennis racket features the so-called Aerodynamic beam design to reduce wind drag and increase racket head speed. The result is a swing weight of 324, which is on the higher end of what is considered medium swing weight. Medium swing weights usually go from 310 to 325, if you didn’t know.
And thanks to its moderate swing weight, the Pure Aero tennis racket will be quite maneuverable without sacrificing much stability. It won’t be as fast and maneuverable as something like HEAD Graphene 360 Speed Pro, but it will be pretty up there.
What also improves the control of this tennis racket is the head-light frame. The weight here is shifted 4 points (half an inch) towards the handle, which somewhat reduces the power potential of the racket but adds control and speed, complementing the good maneuverability of the Pure Aero tennis racket.
Solid amount of power
In terms of power, the Babolat Pure Aero 2019 tennis racket is fairly solid, but oh boy, it is definitely a powerhouse.
Thanks to its heavier 11.2-ounce weight when strung, the Pure Aero 2019 racket boasts a good amount of power. It’s further amplified by the fairly open 16×19 string pattern and the 100 sq. in. racket head. This combo offers a good blend of power and control, but because of the quite fast swing, the Pure Aero racket is somewhat more oriented on control rather than power.
The frame in the Pure Aero 2019 tennis racket is also moderately stiff. With a flex rating of 67, it’s just a shy off being a stiff racket. Generally, flex ratings of 68 and more are considered stiff.
Thanks to its stiffer frame, the Pure Aero 2019 racket will deliver a more solid, poppy feel, and will retain much of the ball’s energy.
Remarkably, like in some other rackets from the Babolat Pure series, Pure Aero 2019 features elastic rubber at 3 and 9 o’clock positions of its head. This feature supposedly makes the frame flexible without sacrificing much power.
Great comfort and shock absorbency
In terms of comfort, Pure Aero 2019 is pretty good as well. It certainly isn’t the most comfortable tennis racket out there, but since it’s not very stiff, it will deliver a softer feel with good shock absorbency. This should make the racket easier on your joints and perhaps more pleasant to use.
With that said, if you have joint conditions – like tennis elbow – then this racket may be too stiff for you. This will depend on the kind of strings you use and the severity of the condition, but Pure Aero certainly isn’t the kind of racket we’d recommend for those who have weak joints or muscles.
Good balance of spin and predictability
The Babolat Pure Aero 2019 tennis racket has a 16×19 string pattern, which is the most popular pattern in modern rackets. This pattern is a closed string pattern, but it’s not the most closed in the world – for comparison, it’s noticeably more open than the 18×20 pattern.
Now, what does this mean to you?
As a moderately dense string pattern, 16×19 will add a little extra spin potential to this racket. Apart from that, it will also add a good amount of power. This allows for a faster-paced game and trickier shots for your opponents.
With that said, the Pure Aero 2019 tennis racket doesn’t have an overwhelming amount of spin. Of course, this will ultimately depend on the used strings, but the base frame has quite a restrained spin. This will translate to more predictable shots, which will be good for not very skilled players.
